With internet use becoming more and more commonplace over the years, IPv6 was introduced so that we don’t run out of combinations any time soon. ![]() IPv4 was first deployed in 1982, and allowed just 4 billion IP combinations. The difference between the two is simply the number of possible IP address combinations. IPv6 addresses, on the other hand, consist of 8 blocks of random digits and letters separated by colons.
